Scientific collaboration agreement

 between

THE PARTIES

The Centro Internazionale di Studi sull'Emigrazione Italiana (hereinafter referred to as CISEI), the registered office of which is in Genoa, Piazza della Commenda 1, represented by the Chairman, Mr. Fabio Capocaccia
and
the Archivio di Stato di Genova (hereinafter referred to as the Archivio), the registered office of which is in Genoa, Piazza Santa Maria in Via Lata, 7, represented by the Director, Ms Paola Caroli

and
the Università degli Studi di Genova (hereinafter referred to as the University), the registered office of which is in Genoa, Via Balbi 5, represented by the Rector, Prof. Gaetano Bignardi.

 

WHEREAS

the Centro Internazionale di Studi sull’Emigrazione Italiana has among its objectives the constitution of an archive with data of departing passengers from Genoa and, to this respect, has elaborated a project called Piano Archivi that has been approved by the Board on 9 October 2006;

the Archivio di Stato di Genova preserves precious material in its archives, among which we find logbooks, sea registers, passport matrixes of the years of interest that today need systematic cataloguing and research;
 

the Università di Genova, whose teaching staff and researchers of different faculties have worked hard all these years and have also based their research on emigration on archive material preserved at the Archivio di Stato by confronting the study of the phenomenon from different points of view;

HERETO AGREE AS FOLLOWS

Article 1

CISEI,  the Archivio and the University agree to collaborate on the following scientific research areas:
“Analysis of documents of historical importance for the study of emigration an in particular Ship’s Registers, passport matrixes and passenger registers taken from sources at the Uffici di Sanità Marittima (Maritime Health Offices) and any other source which may be useful to the purpose of the study of the field in question ”.
This agreement aims to provide a renewed scientific base for research in the field of emigration and constitute databases, available on the net, to allow for use in research and scientific in-depth study that each party mentioned in this agreement will undertake to develop.

Article 2

This agreement is established “without any reciprocal costs”. The CISEI and the University, compatibly with their own ordinary institutional activity, will provide personnel and scientific infrastructures and facilities (to support document classification work carried out in the Archivio, to study documents, to extract scientifically relevant data for the research, to constitute databases and to develop software required to create shared databases, etc).
 The Archivio, compatibly with its own ordinary institutional activity, will give access to archive material regarding emigration, permitting researchers involved in the research free consultation of documents. The Archivio will operate to favour the location of document typologies, which are useful towards the achievement of project goals.

Article 3

Pursuant to this agreement, the parties agree to implement collaboration in the following manner and form:

  • To carry out joint research activity for the study of sources for the history of emigration;
  • To allow reciprocal access databases and libraries belonging to the three institutions;
  • To exchange information and scientific material of mutual interest according to agreement;
  • To organise joint initiatives of diffusion such as exhibitions, seminars, conferences, lessons etc.;
  • To participate in symposiums and congresses with scientific data on final research results;
  • To jointly publish results obtained from research carried out;
  • To cooperate in every way towards the achievement of mutual objectives.

Article 4

Further research projects with specific objectives can be agreed upon, and must be attached as annexes to this agreement.
With the aim of achieving the objectives above mentioned, the three Institutions declare their commitment to seek, when possible, the necessary means towards the execution of this collaboration, in terms of specialised operators and funding, with the opportune requests made to supranational Institutions, public and private national Bodies, local Institutions, Foundations etc.

Article 5

The scientific results obtained within the cooperation programme are of shared ownership, except in case of a different agreement, to the three Institutions, which declare their commitment to protect and valorise the results, according to the norms of the respective Institutions’ internal regulations.

Article 6

This agreement will have the duration of … years from the date of the last signature of the legal representatives of the three institutions. Each modification/extension of this agreement must be accompanied by the written approval of the three Institutions.
