Initiatives
"Dal Porto al Mondo" (Ed. Diabasis) is a collection promoted by the International Centre of Italian Emigration Studies (CISEI) of Genoa and coordinated by Antonio Gibelli. It focuses on Genoa as port of embarkation for migrants, a metaphorical place of transit, and a crossroads of communication between Italy, the Americas, and the rest of the world. The collection includes tales of journeys, autobiographical texts and memories, letters in which the roads of diaspora come alive through the subjectivity of the protagonists and the written traces of their experience.
Re-editions and publications to this day are, Sull’oceano by Edmondo De Amicis (re-edited by Giorgio Bertone, a classic book on Italian emigration in a new edition and the only one to be based on the original manuscript), and La Babele nella pampa by Vanni Blengino, on Italian emigration in Argentina and the image of Italians in Latin America, with splendid autobiographic narration by the immigrant author.
