CISEI was established as an International Center for Studies on Italian Emigration in July, 2005 and ever since has been working on the retrieval of the passengers lists of people who left Italy for finding job opportunities abroad, particularly on transcription of Brazilian, Argentine and American arrival lists (Memorial do emigrante, São Paulo, CEMLA - Centro de studios migratorios latino-americanos , Buenos Aires ; Castle Garden – The Battery Conservancy, New York). Presently CISEI has a data-base with almost 3.000.000 emigrants cards.
